Come celebrate West Chester University’s Banana Day and ease your stress before finals!

Exciting News….

It is that time of the year again! Banana Day is back on April 20th. This amazing and fun day has been a tradition since 1996. Although, it was a tad different from the Banana Day you might see in two weeks. Be prepared to peel a corner and see the campus covered in bananas!

The History

It was founded in 1996 by Rodolfo Tellez. It started as just a fun activity to be used as a stress reducer before finals. Tellez would go on to hand out 3,000 bananas on this day! It continued in 1997 but then took a break in 1998. Fortunately, it came back and was more fun than ever in 1999. Since then, it has gotten bigger and better year after year.

What is so exciting about Banana Day?

You may be wondering what is so exciting about receiving a banana? Over the years the famous Banana Day has expanded. You do not just receive a banana you have to earn it. Along with earning a t-shirt by winning trivia, a banana toss, and much more activities. Who knows what our fellow students and alumni might come up with this year! Due to Covid, it has not been the biggest hit these past two years. Although, they have tried to make it fun with some online and a few in-person events. Since this has been the first hiatus since 1999, I know this year it’s going to be the best ever!
